Andre van Zyl qualified (Cum Laude) as periodontist in 1989 from the University of Stellenbosch.

1989-1996: Private practice Cape Town/Somerset West.
1998-2003: Head of Department of Oral Medicine and Periodontics at Stellenbosch University
2004-2006: Private practice Cape Town and London, UK
2006-2018: Head of Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine, University of Pretoria.
2018-: Private Practice, Hermanus, Western Cape
2018: Appointed as Honorary Professor Department of Oral Medicine and Periodontics, University of Witwatersrand Started the first Post Graduate diploma in oral implantology in South Africa, via distance learning, live surgery and hands-on training in 1999. Established and was Chair of the International Team for Implantology (ITI) Center of Excellence and ITI Scholarship Center at the University of Pretoria 2013-2018. Has published and lectured nationally and internationally in the field of implant dentistry, oral cancer and applied surgical anatomy.
